It's like a little library!

As I'm browsing blogs this morning, I realized yet another benefit of blogging!

As I add pictures of the quilts I've made to my blog, I'm actually keeping a little library of the pics here, and they are here forever!  Sweet!  Because just last week my husband's computer died, and all I could think of was what he might have lost since his last backup.  And I don't know about you, but I know I don't do that very often!  And I know I should, but I don't!  So all those pics that I've added since the last time.....could be lost!  Yikes!

BUT.....if I add them to my blog, I've got em!

So here is another quilt I've made.  This was a baby quilt made for our dear friends Dahlia and Teddy's sweet little Vivian when she was born!  Here she is at about 3 years old....isn't she a doll!

This quilt was hand pieced and machine quilted.  I've made the hummingbird design before (my first hand pieced quilt ever) and I loved it so much, I had to do it again for Vivian!  I made it in the reproduction 30's prints.  It's oversized, about 45"x60", so it can be used as Vivian gets older.  And she does!

Ok....my little library is getting bigger!  Yippee!

Inspired by those gals 'Down Under'

As I was browsing the blogs one day a few weeks ago, I came across Janet at quiltsalott  and she had used the idea she got from Jenny Bowker at Postcards from Cairo.  Both of these ladies are in Australia, and Jenny is doing workshops of this technique at the Houston show!  Of course, I was just amazed at the beautiful work they had done, and was instantly inspired!  So I got busy!

And then I got busier!

The pink/white one is the same size as the brown one (about 20"x30"), but doesn't photograph well.  But you get the idea!  I just had a ball with the filler patterns!  So much fun!  I have given both of these as a birthday gift to two of my friends here in town.  I plan on making a couple for myself, too.  I really loved the idea Jenny had.....extend the flower patterns out into the frame and background with outlining.....it's genius, really!  Of course, she did hers with thread color to show some of the patterns, but I was not that brave yet!  We'll see what happens on my next attempt!

When my friend Brenda brought hers to the little quilting group we have at the town office on Wednesday night, the other gals loved it!  And I was asked to do a group demo/workshop on the free motion quilting.  So after the holidays (we're all just way too busy to start something new right now), we'll all bring our machines, and have some fun!  I can't wait!

I love that I can see work and get ideas from people all over the world, because I know I would never have made it to Houston, much less Australia!  I love browsing blogs!

Just getting started!

Ok!  So starting a blog is not as easy as everyone makes it out to be!  All I really wanted was to have a listing of all the blogs I follow, so I wasn't having to open each one individually.....that takes some time!

So I'm hoping this gets easier as I go!  We'll see!

Of course, I really want to share my quilty world with folks, too!  So to start things off, I'm showing a pic of one of my baby quilts that I've made.  It's been given to my son's dear friends when their little peanut was born!  Sweet!

I made it with the reproduction 30's prints.....I just love those for babies!  They're so darn cute!  Cotton batting so it crinkles like a vintage quilt.  Love that, too!  I never like my quilts to have that 'new, unwashed' look......it just doesn't look comfy to me!

Ok, back to seeing what else I can figure out on this blogger stuff!  Wish me luck!
